Our History
SHARE began as a ministry of First Christian Church of Midland, Texas, in 2005 when a member of the congregation, who was a special education teacher, recognized that there were a number of of church members who had children with special needs and who he
believed could benefit from a short respite from caretaking duties of all the children in the household.
Parents in the church were invited to bring all their children to the church on a Friday evening where volunteers gathered to care for not only the child with special needs, but his/her siblings as well.
SHARE became known in the community of families who have children with all sorts of special needs and, in a few short years, the program has grown to offering respite twice monthly.
In 2008, SHARE took a bold step away from being a church ministry to becoming its own nonprofit organization. By taking this action, the program opened up to families all across West Texas who requested an evening of respite.
Today, SHARE not only provides respite services but programs specifically for siblings and parents, grandparents and extended families as well....
