What is Respite Care?

SHARE provides an invaluable service to families with special needs children.  The program’s mission is to provide supervised childcare to the parents of these special children.  Parents entrust their children to our care on the 2nd Friday evening of every month from 6:00 -10:00 p.m. so that they may have a ‘respite’ or break from the almost continuous job of taking care of their child.

      Special Care Rooms

This is our service for children with special needs (ages birth-14 years).  These may include children with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, etc.  These children stay in special care rooms.  A Supervising Adult and 2 adult and/or teen volunteers staff each room.  While in our care, children may watch movies, play games, and do crafts and other age appropriate activities.  A nurse will be present on the night of respite care in case of emergencies.

Sibling Care

We also provide care for the siblings of our children with special needs.  This is basically a sitter service.  Siblings are kept in 2 groups (ages birth-7) and (ages 8-12). Siblings may play in the gym, watch movies, play games, or do crafts.  The entire program is provided at no charge.
